The delightfully named sneezeweed was formerly dried and crushed to be used as snuff. My favorite varieties have ever-changing rings of color from the center florets to the outer edges of the petals. When I altered the red sneezeweed flower to create this fictional Helenium artwork, I hid the playful character behind its sophisticated mask. By day, sassy scarlet sneezeweed gossips with the insects, but at night, elegant blue and yellow helenium struts her stuff like anything but a wallflower.
