In my practice, I create abstracted landscapes with recycled materials in a variety of mediums, and quilt with stars and jasmines was my first attempt at a quilt. I broke down beloved clothing items from earlier parts of my life to build the patchwork, then spent six months hand-embroidering stars and flowers across the ‘land’ and ‘sky.’ This piece is inspired by illuminated manuscripts and speaks to the way textiles can absorb memory and emotion and preserve them over time.
