My work is concentrated on developing a creative language with abstraction that translates visual rhythm and movement into an exploration of my personal, spiritual and cultural identity. Specifically, this quilt is a commentary on how my African cultural influences impact and influence my cultural identity as an American. By visually referencing percussive rhythms, which is a thread that runs throughout the African diaspora, I am alluding to a shared cultural experience.
