I first met Marian in Philadelphia during the fall of 2019. Sitting on a heating grate, wrapped in a blanket, Marian had a fierce, proud gaze and spoke openly about enjoying her life on the street. Her incarceration in her youth had traumatized her, and she suffered from delusions which made living in a shelter difficult. I created this over-life-sized image of her to render her more visible; so that you, the viewer, cannot look away.
